Goodbye to Queenie

May 7, 2013 by mamacatadmin

It is one long and heartbreaking week today since I had to say goodbye to my lovely Queenie, just one month off her 21st birthday. She was the only one of my cats who was kind of normal, that’s to say, not a feral, stray or unwanted cat-she was wanted from the second I saw her being born in the middle of the night, several hours after my ex-partner’s little boy cat, ahem, gave birth to two boy kittens! We […]

Street cats going hungry in Cambrils

April 22, 2013 by mamacatadmin

I should be in Spain now on a rescue trip but due to my own old Queenie cat being too frail to leave, I had to cancel. I had recently been getting many reports from Cambrils that some of the street cats were hardly been fed at all as some of the feeders had either left the area or simply couldn’t afford to feed them anymore. The crisis has hit badly there and times are really tough which means street […]

A Happy New Year from Mama Cat

January 15, 2013 by mamacatadmin

The New Year has brought all sorts of news, as usual both good and bad but there is always going to be sad news where animals are concerned as our emotions are constantly put to the test.  Fortunately, it is always balanced out by many more happy endings. At the end of 2012, we lost Mama Cat, the real life Mama Cat who started it all. Although I had been in animal rescue for many years when I first visited […]

Merry Christmas from Mama Cat-October 2012 trip to Spain and the saga of the two kittens!

December 23, 2012 by mamacatadmin

The October trip started out with a big problem-my trap had been  broken so catching any cats was going to be almost impossible as most that need to be sterilised are feral and impossible to handle. I spent much of the trip feeding cats as it was immediately obvious that there was no food in many of the usual feeding areas. I did some emailing in the internet cafe, (I go lo-tech when I’m there!) and discovered that their usual […]

Mama Cat Trust presents…..

December 13, 2012 by mamacatadmin

I’ve been so busy doing animal stuff that I just haven’t been able to catch up with myself-at every turn, something needs to be sorted-be it a cat, a dog, a pigeon or a fox! Back in April, it was the first ever Mama Cat fundraising night at Cottons where loads of lovely people came and supported all the fab acts who were kind enough to offer their comedy/magic/singing services free of charge. Adam Hess and Iain Lee Thank you […]

Great news!

July 10, 2012 by mamacatadmin

The little cat has been offered a fantastic home so she will get a touch of the life she deserves after all her traumas. She has been offered a lovely life for however long she has left, with all the love and comfort that she wants. This is such fantastic news-cats like this are so difficult to home-it takes very special people to take on a cat with a terminal illness as it an emotional and tricky path to take. […]

Urgent home needed for this poppet

July 10, 2012 by mamacatadmin

Yesterday I was called about a cat who had been stuck in a flat with her owner’s dead body for up to 9 days. The poor man’s body had been removed on Saturday and although the neighbours had told the police that there was definitely a cat inside, they said there wasn’t. The neighbours persevered and eventually the police came back and located the terrified girl today. I went and collected her straight away and took her to the vet […]

The black cat trip

April 1, 2012 by mamacatadmin

On my last trip to Spain, it was difficult to do much as I could not get hold of the tools of my trade-ie my cat trap! Obviously, most of the cats need to be caught this way as they are unhandleable but some are friendly and can be touched. The long term colony at the port are like this and absolutely love attention-they adore being stroked and cuddled which is lucky as I nearly always have to take one […]

Cats Galore!

September 27, 2011 by mamacatadmin

Spring sprung early this year with extraordinarily sunny days in April here in the UK and it was no different in Spain. When I visited last, the warm weather had resulted in a glut of pregnant cats-everywhere I looked there seemed to be more-it was quite overwhelming. I knew I had to try to catch as many females as possible. I looked for Rodrigo who was pleased to see me but his little tongue was hanging out so I took […]

Cats looking for homes

July 7, 2011 by mamacatadmin

These two beautiful boys were born on the 2nd March. Fully vaccinated/wormed/flea treated etc. They are both sensitive little boys that will need a quiet introduction to a new home. They respond much more to play rather than affection from strangers so that does seem to be the way to win them over. Once they’re settled in they are extremely affectionate and playful.   Athena is a 1-2 year old female marble tabby and has beautiful markings and intense green […]

Mama Cat Trust in the newspapers!

June 20, 2011 by mamacatadmin

Cruelty claim as Kentish Town resident arranges fox shootings Neighbour calls in ‘marksmen’ to remove animals from garden Published: 2nd June, 2011 by JOSIE HINTON A QUIET street has become the centre of an animal rights row after “marksmen” were called in to shoot foxes. Residents near Talacre Park in Kentish Town staged a protest after a neighbour used a pest controller to cull urban foxes that had been digging holes in his garden. The man, who has asked not […]

URBAN FOXES AND THEIR FRIENDS AND ENEMIES

June 4, 2011 by mamacatadmin

We have all read the scare-mongering but unsubstantiated stories in the press about fox ‘attacks’ and there are some people who don’t question the validity of these tales as it suits them to believe them. Thankfully, most people do not think this way. Here in London, there are many foxes living in our gardens and in the main, this is a harmonious arrangement where the majority of folk enjoy sharing their environment with wildlife and delight in watching the foxy […]

Autumn Trip 2010

March 27, 2011 by mamacatadmin

I landed at Reus airport with a long to-do list of cats I had heard about by email with various problems so as soon as I could, I went off in search of them. I had heard there was a new older kitten who had arrived at Luigi’s shop and I spotted him straight away, untouchable and peeping tentatively at a distance-a very pretty boy, he would need to be trapped. There had been a report that one of the […]

Luna still needs a home

December 9, 2010 by mamacatadmin

After losing track of poor Luna for a while, he has been found in a local Spanish dog shelter where he is utterly miserable. He has had such a bad time after first being abandoned by his owner then running loose in the streets only to end up at the shelter. He is safe but doesn’t understand of course, therefore has become too depressed to eat and is becoming desperately skinny. He will not survive like this. Please ask anybody […]

Summer trips 2010

November 9, 2010 by mamacatadmin

Sorry about the delay in bringing the latest news but I cannot catch up with myself-whenever I start my update, some animal problem or another comes along and eclipses everything! There was a momentous day this Summer-Catalonia voted to ban bullfighting! Let’s hope that the rest of Spain and other countries that still permit this horrific and pathetic spectacle, follow suit. Hopefully, the hideous bull runs will also be stopped. So far, this Summer, I have made three trips to […]

Cambrils Visit – May 2010

June 2, 2010 by mamacattrust

On my last trip to Spain, I went armed with a list of ‘cats-to-do’ but as is the way with animals, things don’t always go to plan! I had heard that Luigi needed  a female cat to be spayed where she lived out of the town in a remote spot with some of the cats who had been moved for their own safety plus others who had been dumped. We had already neutered some but this was a female kitten […]

Cambrils Visit – September 2009

September 30, 2009 by mamacattrust

Summer has whizzed by in a big blur of animals, both here and abroad! It is has  been quite some time since the last report although there have been two action packed trips to Spain since then…..and another one fast approaching. In March, we met up in Spain with our friends from Progat Cambrils for the first time. When we first started sterilising the cats in Cambrils, we knew there were individuals who were trying to help the cats but […]

Mama Cat moves boxes! – March 2009

March 29, 2009 by mamacattrust

Back last year Luigi, who feeds Mama Cat and the other passing strays, had been warned by the police that there had been a complaint about the cats. It was alleged that a cat had damaged a car in an underground car park and the finger had been pointed at him-a scapegoat had been needed, quite apart from the fact that a cat wouldn’t generally go around scratching cars although people do VERY often! He was told not to feed […]

Please help foxes too!

March 18, 2009 by mamacattrust

Many people phone me with concerns about foxes with mange. This is a condition which is very painful and can result in a horrible death for the fox if left untreated-it is also contagious to other foxes. It is treatable with homeopathic medicine Arsenicum and Sulphur and very easy to administer by putting it out daily for the fox in a jam or honey sandwich-they have a very sweet tooth! Please don’t turn a blind eye and hope the problem […]
