Cambrils Visit – May 2010

June 2, 2010 by mamacattrust

On my last trip to Spain, I went armed with a list of ‘cats-to-do’ but as is the way with animals, things don’t always go to plan! I had heard that Luigi needed  a female cat to be spayed where she lived out of the town in a remote spot with some of the cats who had been moved for their own safety plus others who had been dumped. We had already neutered some but this was a female kitten […]

Cambrils Visit – September 2009

September 30, 2009 by mamacattrust

Summer has whizzed by in a big blur of animals, both here and abroad! It is has  been quite some time since the last report although there have been two action packed trips to Spain since then…..and another one fast approaching. In March, we met up in Spain with our friends from Progat Cambrils for the first time. When we first started sterilising the cats in Cambrils, we knew there were individuals who were trying to help the cats but […]

Mama Cat moves boxes! – March 2009

March 29, 2009 by mamacattrust

Back last year Luigi, who feeds Mama Cat and the other passing strays, had been warned by the police that there had been a complaint about the cats. It was alleged that a cat had damaged a car in an underground car park and the finger had been pointed at him-a scapegoat had been needed, quite apart from the fact that a cat wouldn’t generally go around scratching cars although people do VERY often! He was told not to feed […]

Please help foxes too!

March 18, 2009 by mamacattrust

Many people phone me with concerns about foxes with mange. This is a condition which is very painful and can result in a horrible death for the fox if left untreated-it is also contagious to other foxes. It is treatable with homeopathic medicine Arsenicum and Sulphur and very easy to administer by putting it out daily for the fox in a jam or honey sandwich-they have a very sweet tooth! Please don’t turn a blind eye and hope the problem […]

Cambrils Visit – October 2008

October 18, 2008 by mamacattrust

Since returning from a trip to Cambrils two weeks ago, I have some received some really shocking news. In nearby Tarragona, many street cats have been found tortured in the most barbaric ways. I cannot describe how awful the photos were but I will spare you them. I was in two minds whether to even pass on this horrible news as I don’t want people to be put off reading the website. I know what it is like to be […]

Mama Cat in Spanish Newspaper, Aqui – July 2008

July 23, 2008 by mamacattrust

Mama Cat Trust was contacted by a journalist, Raquel Samaniego, from the Spanish newspaper Aqui who had heard about our work. Below is the article which appeared in ‘Aqui’ and ‘Diari’ in July which I have translated for those who are not fluent in Catalan! The sterilisation of cats, working in Cambrils The British woman Karen Heath is carrying out a campaign to avoid the massive reproduction of street cats in Cambrils. Karen also has 15 years experience working on […]

Cambrils visit – April 2008

April 28, 2008 by mamacattrust

The night before I flew out to Spain, I found out that my Teddy, who was due to be coming to the U.K in June, had been put to sleep. He had gone missing a few days earlier and my Spanish friend Sagrario, who fed and cared for him at the port discovered that someone who fed the other harbour cats, had taken him to the vets and had him put to sleep as he was ill. Now, he always […]

Venice visit – March 2008

March 28, 2008 by mamacattrust

In March, we travelled to Venice and were delighted to visit the cat sanctuary Gattille Di Malamocco, on the island of Lido. It is run by the wonderful Mariagrazia and her dedicated team of volunteers collectively known as Dingo. What a wonderful place-although it is currently home to around 180 cats, when Mariagrazia showed us round she knew the name, personality and story of each and every one and they all knew and loved her. Some cats had very special […]

Cambrils visit – October 2007

October 28, 2007 by mamacattrust

Well, I guessed it wouldn’t be long before I returned to Cambrils as I was so worried about leaving Eduardo and the other cats. Although my able assistant, (my mum!) and I didn’t land until quite late, as soon as the in-laws dropped us off at the apartment, we threw our cases down and hot-footed it up to the harbour. Unfortunately we were stopped in our tracks by a security man on a bicycle who declared the harbour “cerrado”-closed! Undeterred, […]

Cambrils visit – September 2007

September 27, 2007 by mamacattrust

We arrived at Cambrils by car from England via France having hardly seen any signs of feline life to be greeted by a miaow from a very happy and healthy looking Mama Cat. She can be a bit temperamental and will lash out if the fancy takes her but she always seems to remember me and has never taken a swipe at me yet! She seems to sense that I am her friend. I will never forget the time when […]

Cambrils visit – March 2007

March 18, 2007 by mamacattrust

It was very disappointing to discover that the Town hall have discontinued their neutering programme but very pleasing to see that all the cats who were neutered in September are bouncing with health. Luigi was thrilled by how well they now are. He was particularly impressed by the males, who he had needed to be persuaded to do initially. They are no longer fighting and battle-scarred and look the picture of fitness. Mama Cat playing Unfortunately, the two rooftop kittens […]

Cambrils visit – September 2006

September 30, 2006 by mamacattrust

I will be going to Cambrils on 25th March to continue with the neutering programme. I am looking forward to seeing how the cats are doing since being sterilised in September 2006…….especially Mama Cat as she was still recuperating when I left! Sadly, one of the kittens from the last visit has died. I had her neutered early after rescuing her and her sibling from a roof where she had been born. I am a little unsure as to what […]
